Acting as a customer advocate, there are only three RV Body and Paint Repair shops in Las Vegas that I can recommend to people. Each shop has a different set of strengths, so the one you choose should be based on your circumstances. Additionally there are five more shops you could choose and probably come out ok, but I can’t recommend them because they have unresolved customer complaints.
Some things to consider, apart from expertise;
Can the shop match the look and quality of the original manufacturer?
Does the shop source materials that meet or exceed manufacturer recommendations?
Can the shop make repairs that don’t cancel any warrantys still existing from the manufacturer or extended warranty provider?
Does the shop use RVIA guidelines in their processes? (RVIA is the industry standard in quality to prevent water damage, fire or other issues)
Additional considerations
Can the shop handle the claims process for your particular insurance company?
Do they have processes to complete the repair when manufacturer parts aren’t available?
Most important is to identify the kind of repair you need
There are 3 basic kinds of damage. Cosmetic, structural and intrusive.
Cosmetic Damage
This kind of repair is in the fiberglass, filon, aluminum and exterior wall. The repair is going to cost from hundreds to $10,000 and will involve moldings, paint and seals and maybe some parts and decals. Every RV body and paint repair shop is equipped to handle this but there are only two shops I recommend. The first is Johnny Walker. These guys do excellent work, have dedicated teams to complete each portion of the repair and have a history of siding with the customer when there’s a misunderstanding. They also have an excellent parts department, best in the state and a couple of Master certified RVIA technicians. The other shop I recommend is Wheelwright RV. Pick Wheelwright RV if you have cosmetic repairs and are in the Northwest part of town. Although I have access to a Master tech on the phone, we are just certified RVIA techs and might need a little help diagnosing intrusive damage, but on all other counts I can match or exceed their quality because the owner is in the shop and involved in repairs. We also have a history of siding with the customer when there’s a misunderstanding.
Structural Damage
Structural damage is referring to the frame, basically the foundation of your home on wheels. If you have light damage, a local bend or break involved with the cosmetic damage then Johnny Walker or Wheelwright RV can both take care of that and make it like new. What if you have heavy structural damage and your coach is too expensive for it to be a total loss? There’s only one place in town for that and that is BRC, Big Rig Collision. Why do I recommend them? Well, they are the place that I send heavy structural damages to. Until National Indoor RV put there paint booth in place all of their collision repair was done by BRC. If you have significant structural damage or large pieces of your camper missing this is the place to get the work done.
Intrusive Damage
Sometimes that cosmetic damage goes into the walls and electronics or other components of your Motorcoach or trailer. These are the repairs where it’s really important to have RVIA certified techs involved. These are the repairs where your choice of shop is crucial and where problems unseen when the repair is completed can show up later on. All three of the mentioned shops will do an excellent job for you if this is the case.
